Question: Covid-19 front-liners like health officers are hailed as heroes. In your opinion, who else are equally important?

On January 25, 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic was confirmed to spread in Malaysia. In December 2019, the infectious disease was first identified in Wuhan, China, and has spread throughout the world since then. Coronavirus disease 2019 is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and can cause viral pneumonia and multi-organ failure. As the world has come to terms with this disaster, all people on earth have come together to fight against Covid-19. Along with front liners like health officers, many other important individuals have been heroes in saving the country. They are the government, cleaners and the general forces.

The government is responsible for ensuring the prevention and disinfection mechanism for the outbreak. Various policies and initiatives need to be planned, announced and implemented by those who administer the country. The government has announced several measures to curb the threat of the outbreak from further spread, including implementing a Movement Control Order aimed at breaking the chain of infection. In addressing this issue, everyone is willing to push aside political issues and unite to protect Malaysians.

Furthermore, we must not forget our unsung heroes, those who are responsible for cleaning to ensure that our environment is free of threats from bacteria, viruses and other pollutants. The cleaners, whether working in hospitals, clinics, public buildings or on the streets, have been working hard to eradicate germs and viruses to keep the people's lives safe.

Finally, the general forces who are responsible for keeping Malaysia safe and secure. Some have had to go back to work and have their leave frozen, but they are still eager to continue working. In fact, they are willing to work in the rain and heat to ensure that Malaysians remain compliant with the law, especially under the  Movement Control Order. Both the Royal Malaysian Police Force and the Malaysian Armed Forces, they are in control to keep the public safe at home during the period in which the social distancing rule is carried out.

Last but not least, we should also be proud that we as Malaysians are helping to fight Covid-19 by obeying the Movement Control Order and staying at home. Regardless of who we are, every single Malaysian is a component of the community chain. The sacrifice of individuals in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic is not a waste, and we will one day be free of this Coronavirus outbreak.
